something from the purpose driven life daily devotional thing.

Tyranny of the Urgent
by John Fischer

Sometimes the most important stuff in a newspaper comes from the comics. Recently, in an edition of the comic strip, “In the Bleachers” by Steve Moore, two baseball players are standing in the outfield and one of them is thinking, “Who am I? Where did I come from? What is the meaning of life? How did…” and the other yells over at him, “Salinas! Get your head in the game!” So in the next frame he’s suddenly thinking, “Who will hit the ball to me? Where should I throw it? What is the official paid attendance?...”

Now there’s a purpose-driven ball player if I ever saw one – in the outfield thinking about the meaning of life, but his teammate and the game he’s playing force him off the subject. Isn’t life like this? The immediate always swallows up the more important questions.

One of the most influential books I’ve ever read is a little pamphlet titled, “The Tyranny of the Urgent.” The title is so good you hardly have to read it. It’s about all those immediate pressing things that crowd out what’s more essential. We never get around to why we play the game because we’re too busy chasing down fly balls. Even as you read this, there are probably a dozen different things that are trying to squeeze back into your consciousness and keep you from using this time to reflect on God and His purposes for your life.

Remember when Jesus was in the home of Mary and Martha and Martha was distracted by all the preparations she was making for her guests? And there was her sister, Mary, sitting at the feet of Jesus, giving Him her full attention. At that point Martha had the gall to accuse the Lord of not caring that she was left to take care of everything by herself. To which Jesus replied, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41).

if you refresh yourself with prayer, a reading from the Bible or a few minutes at the feet of Jesus – you will be better equipped to handle those things and in the long run, you’ll come out further down the road.

You might even make better choices.

hello people. i found something meaningful in my inbox, thought you guys might wanna see it.

A young lady named Sally, relates an experience she had in a seminary class, given by her teacher, Dr. Smith. She says that Dr. Smith was known for his elaborate object lessons. One particular day, Sally walked into the seminary and knew they were in for a fun day. On the wall was a big target and on a nearby table were many darts. Dr.Smith told the students to draw a picture of someone that they disliked or someone who had made them angry, and he would allow them to throw darts at the person's picture. Sally's friend drew a picture of who had stolen her boyfriend. Another friend drew a picture of his little brother. Sally drew a picture of a former friend, putting a great deal of detail into her drawing, even drawing pimples on the face. Sally was pleased with the overall effect she had achieved. The class lined up and began throwing darts. Some of the students threw their darts with such force that their targets were ripping apart. Sally looked forward to her turn, and was filled with disappointment when Dr.Smith, because of time limits, asked the students to return to their seats. As Sally sat thinking about how angry she was because she didn't have a chance to throw any darts at her target. Dr. Smith began removing the target from the wall. Underneath the target was a picture of Jesus. A hush fell over the room as each student viewed the mangled picture of Jesus; holes and jagged marks covered His face and His eyes were pierced. Dr. Smith said only these words…

"In as much as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me." Matthew 25:40.

No other words were necessary; the tears filled eyes of the students focused only on the picture of Christ.

After today's topic about our families, many of us might be in a sort of reflective mood, thinking about what we have done wrongly or haven't done in the past. So let us take this opportunity to improve our relationships with our parents and or siblings and no matter how bad things get, let us put it at the foot of his cross, for he suffered and died for us to love.

The Weekend

The Blog Shall Not Die! (yet... I hope)

2 major events have happened this weekend; Rosary Devotion, Sgn District Rally Spiritual Prep.

Rosary went along well. I think we should kneel and stand and read slower! I couldn't keep pace with the people reading it. Maybe it's just me. Looking back at the sec3s brings back memories. Well, YV proposed that 2 weeks from now, we combine our rosary as they are planning one that friday. Opinions?

Well, only I went for the spiritual prep, but for the time of PnW, asking us "Why do we worship"- bringing us to the roots of our faith. It was good for me, haven't had pnw in a while. Esp. following pnw, not leading it. 2 Completely different things, leading and being led.

While leading, you must be totally aware of the entire atmosphere. The power of the spirit in the room to the attentions of others. Whereas being led, you drift off to this familiar place... You finally get to throw aside everything and talk to God.

Place all your struggles at the feet of Jesus then turn your gaze towards his face

haha.. HELLOS! this blog is going to die soon.. so i shall post something =D haha.. another story-like thingy =D okay.. so here it is.

Cup or Water?
A group of working adults got together to visit their University lecturer. The lecturer was happy to see them. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. The Lecturer just smiled and went to the kitchen to get an assortment of cups- some porcelain, some in plastic, some in glass, some plain looking and some looked rather expensive and exquisite. The Lecturer offered his former students the cups to get drinks for themselves. When all the students had a cup in hand with water, the Lecturer spoke: "If you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal that you only want the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all you wanted was water, not the cup, but we unconsciously went for the better cups."

"Just like in life, if Life is Water, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold/maintain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change."

"If we only concentrate on the cup, we won't have time to enjoy the water in it."

heehee.. okay.. ENJOY and reflect on it =D blah blah blah... ... .. btw.. it's children's day today.. so HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY people.. remember.. even though we are no longer known as children.. we are still a child at heart! haha.. so let the child in you be revived! lol *waves*
